The Importance of Cleansing

The humble cleanser often gets pushed out of the spotlight by its more active partners, like serums and night creams. But your cleanser - and the technique you use - can be vital for ensuring you're getting the best out of your entire regime.

THE ART OF DOUBLE CLEANSING

Cleansing of a morning is very important as your skin picks up a lot of product and bacteria left on your pillow slip by your hair when you sleep. Also, we tend to sweat more at night so if you don’t cleanse your face in the morning before applying your skincare and makeup you are essentially leaving these impurities on the skin and rubbing them in again inviting a nasty breakout or ‘oil slick’ throughout the day

Double Cleansing should be performed every night!

Benefits: When you cleanse your skin not only are you removing your makeup and grime from the day but you are also aiming to rid it of impurities and achieve a clean ‘canvas’ on which you will apply your more ‘corrective’ skincare products.

Your first cleanse will only really remove makeup and sunscreen etc but THE SECOND CLEANSE IN THE IMPORTANT ONE. This will lift out trapped oils and particles from your pores allowing your skin to breath again and perform its natural nightly renewal and detoxification processes effectively.
If you don’t double cleanse these makeup and dirt particle will accumulate in your pores creating a haven for bacterial growth and the perfect environment for blackheads and breakouts to start.
When choosing a cleanser always look for a gentle ‘soap free’ product and be sure to look at the ingredients. You want to avoid any product that includes sulfates e.g. Sodium Laureth Sulfate as these are cheap foaming agents that create a lather (they are also found in dishwashing detergents and floor cleaners) but strip the skin of natural oils that are necessary to keep the skin’s ph balanced.
A pre cleansing oil is also a good idea if you wear a lot of heavy makeup as they help to emulsify and break down the makeup before thoroughly cleansing with a gentle cleansing product like Aspect’s Gentle Clean $44. This product is gentle enough to use on the eyes and is ph balanced so does not require toning.
You should always massage your cleansing products into the skin for a minute or so and really concentrate on areas where the skin is more ‘clogged’ such as the creases of the nose and chin and jawline.
Rinsing of the product is also very important. Don’t just splash your face with water….Use a luke warm clean face washer or facial sponges to remove the cleanser and wipe away any impurities
The result? HAPPY SKIN :)
